Quit Smoking Journal: The Battle to Give Up the Cigarette Habit
In June of 2005, after having smoked since age 17, I decided I'd had enough.
I will be telling you how I did it in the coming weeks.
UPDATE JANUARY 2018: I quit the day after the fourth of July, 2005. I have not had a cigarette since. It was tough, but only for the first three days. After that it was not easy, but manageable.
Update: January 2021: This July I will celeberate 16 years smoke free. I don't crave cigarettes at all these days, but I do remember how much I loved them.
I have no secrets to share, but I do know I never regretted quitting, as tough as it was.
How did I do it? I employed a "COAcH" - my son. I took three days to be isolated at home with him, and he didn't let me break.
The third day I was crying for a cigarette, and he would not allow me to have one.
Every day I rewarded myself with a coffee from our local shop. You can reward yourself with ANYTHING that will make you feel good.
I used to take my longer hair each evening and smell it, realizing it smelled so much better since I'd quit.
I prayed.
January 21, 2024
Now it's been 18.5 years since I smoked my last cigarette.
I thank God I had the good fortune and strength to stay smoke free and vape free, as well.
My weight is a BMI of 21 - 22, and I exercise just about daily.
I am thankful to God for these blessings.
I will be back to share my experience with you. I pray you have the strength to quit - it's a great feeling.
